5 Common Video Game Features That WON’T be in Harrowed World: Portents In Red-Vampire RPG Video Game
Updated: Sep 2
(Please note that the video was created and released before the final title for the game was chosen and announced)
Currently in development, Harrowed World: Portents In Red (Working Title: Project Nightowl) is an RPG video game that takes place in Harrowed World. The game will let players experience the perspective of a newly turned vampire.
Instead of talking about what WILL be in the game, today I wanted to talk about what WON’T be in the game, but before you label me as boring, let me present my case.
While I understand that these features have their appeal in video games, they just aren’t right for Harrowed World: Portents In Red. Allow me to explain why.
Here are 5 Common Video Game Features That WON'T be in Harrowed World: Portents In Red:
1. No Cutesy Aesthetic
It’s true that a lot of people love a game with a cutesy aesthetic. While some games successfully blend cuteness with dark and creepy elements, such as Cult of the Lamb, we believe that a gothic horror world inhabited by vampires and other supernatural creatures deserves a different approach.
We strive to maintain the eerie atmosphere and embrace the darker aspects of the Harrowed World setting.
2. No Immersion Breaking Clothing or Accessories
We value immersion above all else and aim to maintain a cohesive and immersive experience throughout Harrowed World: Portents In Red.
Therefore, we will steer clear of clothing and accessory options that break the carefully crafted atmosphere, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in this haunting world. And yes, this includes capes.
3. No Retro Aesthetic
While the project takes some inspiration from older games, Harrowed World: Portents In Red aims for a visual style that mixes cotemporary with gothic styling in order to enhance the immersive experience.
We believe a purely retro aesthetic would detract from the game's intended tone and narrative.
4. No Romance Options
Given the portrayal of vampires in popular culture today, often relegated to comedy or romance flicks, we have deemed it inappropriate to include romance options in the game.
Harrowed World: Portents In Red will explore the struggles, horrors, and complexities of vampiric existence, rather than focusing on romantic encounters.
5. No Souls-like Mechanics
While games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne have gained immense popularity with their challenging mechanics, it's crucial to remember that the souls-like approach does not suit every game.
Such mechanics would divert attention from the intended style, story, and theme of Harrowed World: Portents In Red.
With Harrowed World: Portents In Red, we aim to create a unique and immersive vampire roleplaying experience, prioritising the dark and atmospheric elements that align with the gothic horror genre.
By deviating from these common video game features, we aim to deliver a fresh and captivating experience that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
